Busunju Horticultural Growers' Association was founded in year 2000 as community based organization till the end of 2001 amendment in the constitution to start doing business for its sustainability and to fund its rural Agricultural programs.

BUHOGA Horticultural Growers' Association is a non - profit organisation which works as an umbrella to accomodate farmers, stake holders, associations, Co-operations and financial sectors together and its the promotion arm of Busunju Horticultural Growers Association Limited both registered in Uganda as an Independent Entity.

 

 BUHOGA Horticultural Growers Association. started in the mid-2020s as a community – based organisation. In 2024, the entity was transformed into a for non-profit organization, with local individual funders with 50,513 registered members including association, cooperatives, farmer groups, youth development organizations, transporters etc. The organization has developed year by year by investing in environment protection, climate change campaign, eco diversity and expanding its network in Uganda along sustainable farming chains with farmer organizations. 

EXPECTED ROLES OF BUSUNJU HORTICULTURAL GROWERS ASSOCIATION

  1. Introduce soil rejuvenation methods and water conservation on a sustainable basis.

  2. Offer a participatory approach holding together farmers, researchers, scientists and extension services and market information services to instill confidence in the farmers and motivate them to work hard for increased income per individual farmer and seed multiplication.

  3. Promote knowledge networks and wisdom heritage learning and insight causing farmers to learn from each other for a sustainable and productive farming system.

  4. Initiate a youth and women enterprises scheme farming a trained agricultural task force as a sustainable labor force requirement to back up the designed targeted high value products thus increasing employment opportunity in rural areas by 20% each year.

  5. Increase foreign exchange earning in reference to local currency depreciation.

AREAS OF OPERATION

  • We have chosen semi-arid and non semi-arid districts mobilizing and working with farmers in areas of East, Northeast, North, Northwest and West.

  • Set up demonstration farms to act as pace setters and practical application of accumulated knowledge for the farmers’ adoption in conformity with our projected targets.

  • Form a strengthened and motivated farmers groups to seriously take agriculture and animal industry as a profitable venture.

  • Secure support and make alliance with partners for the purposes of efficiently executing this programme.

  • Work closely with local authorities and other organs to promote community development activities.
